"From SIMPONI PPA (Online Information System for the Protection of Women and Children) data in the last five years from 2019, it was stated that the victims of violence were dominated by girls," he informed here on Friday.
As per the data, the ministry received 12,558 reports of violence in the period from January to July 2024.
Of the total victims, the number of male victims stood at 2,701 and female victims 10,903.
Of the female victims, the largest group comprised girls aged 13–17 years, who accounted for 40.1 percent of the total.
Based on SIMPONI PPA data, the most frequently reported cases involved sexual violence, Nahar said.
The ministry has predicted that the number of reports could climb higher than the previous year.
"So, the total cases of violence from 2019 show that there are more girls than boys. The numbers continue to increase. For example, there is an increase from 11 thousand cases in 2019 to 18 thousand cases in 2023. The majority of victims are girls," Nahar informed.
He said that this is because girls are more vulnerable to such violence than boys.
In addition, the upbringing of girls often makes them less likely to fight back, making them more vulnerable to violence, especially sexual violence.
"Because girls are more vulnerable than boys. If boys can refuse or fight back, while girls are relatively obedient to the perpetrator's wishes," he explained.
