Jakarta (ANTARA) - National Family Day (Harganas) celebrations should generate a multiplier effect on the local economy, particularly for lower-income communities, according to Head of the National Population and Family Planning Agency (BKKBN) Hasto Wardoyo.

During a gathering to celebrate the day in Jakarta on Wednesday, he said that in the commemoration of the 31st Harganas in Semarang, Central Java, at the end of June, more than 10,000 people participated, boosting the city's economy.

"We want the Harganas celebration to be lively while also generating a positive economic impact on the surrounding community, particularly by stimulating local businesses," Wardoyo said.

He added that the 2024 National Family Day celebration was highly related to the acceleration of stunting reduction, with a focus on sensitive factors such as the construction of latrines, sanitation, and the environment.

Collaborating with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, the BKKBN focuses the Harganas activities on housing infrastructure and the environment.

Wardoyo said that at the Harganas celebration next year, his agency will bestow awards on district and city governments that successfully implement sanitation development.
