He made the recommendation after making a work visit to Bantul district, Yogyakarta, on Saturday.
The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy has set five super-priority tourist destinations, namely Lake Toba in North Sumatra, Borobudur Temple in Central Java, Labuan Bajo in East Nusa Tenggara, Mandalika in West Nusa Tenggara, and Likupang in North Sulawesi.
According to Uno, the development of the five destinations should continue after the term of President Joko Widodo's government ends because the number of tourist visits to the five destinations has increased in the last year.
"What we need to increase is (tourist visits) in Likupang through promotion and destination development," he said.
He expressed the hope that the five super-priority destinations would be supported by world-class infrastructures, such as Yogyakarta Internasional Airport (YIA), which serves travelers visiting Borobudur Temple.
"There are also MotoGP (circuit) in Mandalika, ecotourism development in Labuan Bajo, and of course, in Lake Toba, the main attraction is the F1 powerboat events, which we have held for the last two years," he said.
The Indonesian government is targeting tourist arrivals of 17 million in 2024.
According to data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), from January to May, Indonesia recorded 5,244,213 international tourist arrivals, reflecting an increase of 23.78 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
In January–May, the highest number of foreign tourist arrivals was recorded in Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport at 2,380,501.
