Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Health is targeting the DKI Jakarta Province to reach 1.2 million children for Polio vaccination within a week during National Immunization Week (PIN) 2024.

"The target for children up to seven years of age must be completed within one week. Suppose the average of 1.2 million children is divided by seven days. In that case, they can determine their daily target," the ministry's Head of the Basic Immunization and Under Two (Baduta) Working Team, Sulistya Widada, stated on Wednesday.

He reminded health workers at health centers in each region to map out workforce supply and other availability to achieve this target.

He assured that the vaccine drops distributed were safe and of maintained quality before being given to children. PT Biofarma produces the vaccine domestically.

"The quality of the vaccine has a special mark and is monitored until it is delivered," he stated.

DKI Jakarta is one of the 10 provinces with the largest daily targets for PIN polio implementation.

Widada then outlined several efforts made by his side to achieve the daily targets for PIN Polio, such as mapping areas, immunization posts, and number of targets; involving qualified health workers from both the government and private sector; implementing PIN polio according to procedures, starting from governance, vaccines and logistics, service implementation, reporting, and waste management; and lastly integrated daily monitoring.

DKI Jakarta Polio PIN in 2024 targets 1,209,303 children up to seven years of age, with a minimum daily target of 181,930 children, and is administered in two doses, with a target of 95 percent for each dose.

The first dose will be administered on July 23-August 3, 2024, followed by the second dose on August 6-August 17, 2024.

Until 2024, some 12 polio cases were found in Aceh, West Java, Central Java, East Java, and Papua, and most recently in the Banten region, all of which are classified as polio with a clinical picture of paralysis.
