Kupang (ANTARA) - The East Nusa Tenggara Provincial Health Service announced that the target for polio vaccination for children up to seven years of age in the area reached 910,087 children.

"Hence, the daily target is 123,512 children out of a total target for all of NTT (which is) 910,087 children," Head of NTT Health Service Lien Adriany stated in Kupang, Wednesday.

She explained that this was related to the implementation of the National Polio Immunization Week (PIN), during which NTT was also the target area for polio vaccination. Acting Governor of NTT, Ayodhia Kalake, launched the PIN on Tuesday (July 23).

She remarked that the target number for vaccination was 910,087 children, spread across 22 districts and cities in the island-based province.

Adriany highlighted that the purpose of polio vaccination is to increase children's immunity against poliovirus attacks.

"The process of administering the polio vaccine itself is carried out over seven days, with the first round from July 23 to July 29, 2024, and the second round on August 6-12," she revealed.

Speaking about the logistics of polio immunization, she said the number for NTT is 1,138,200 vials, all of which have been distributed to 22 districts and cities in NTT.

Polio vaccination has been carried out simultaneously across NTT, with a total of 135 community health centers and 10,820 integrated health service post (posyandu) locations.

"They were assisted by community leaders as well as Bhabinkamtibmas and Babinsa," she remarked.

Acting NTT Governor Ayodhia Kalake expressed hope that children in the local area would remain in good health.

"Of course, we, as parents, also play a role in maintaining the health of our children and maintaining good nutritional intake. Do not forget also to thank the parents who have brought their children to get polio immunization," he remarked.
