Depok (ANTARA) - HerLens, a startup incubated by the Directorate of Innovation and Science Techno Park (DISTP) of the University of Indonesia (UI), won an award at the US-ASEAN Science, Technology, and Innovation Cooperation (STIC) Program.

The startup won the STIC Business Venture Seed Grant organized by the US State Department, US-ASEAN Smart Cities Partnership (USASCP), Arizona State University, and Rochester Institute of Technology.

HerLens is a pioneer in developing innovative solutions for cervical cancer prevention that uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology for disease detection, with an accuracy rate of 80 percent.

Director of Innovation and Science Techno Park Ahmad Gamal said AI focus enables HerLens to grow rapidly and inclusively, ensuring equal access to early cancer detection for all women.

Founded by UI computer science students Muhammad Naufal Nabiel and Jihan Alfiyyah Munajat, HerLens aims to revolutionize cervical cancer prevention.

The application developed by HerLens is not only supported by AI technology but also guided by Dr. Gatot Purwoto, SpOG(K), MPH, and a team of doctors from the Department of Oncology and Gynecology of UI’s Faculty of Medicine (FKUI) of RSCM.

The involvement of medical experts ensures that HerLens' technology has a strong scientific foundation and is relevant to community needs, especially in areas with limited access to health facilities.

HerLens began by participating in the Apple Developer Academy Indonesia and is now part of the Problem Solution Fit scheme in the UI Incubate program managed by DISTP UI.

"This demonstrates their commitment to developing useful technological solutions that can be widely implemented to improve the quality of life of the Indonesian people," Gamal stated.

HerLens’ victory in the international competition not only enhanced UI’s reputation but also showcased the immense potential of local technology in improving health services in developing countries.

"By continuing to develop and implement technology, HerLens is expected to make a significant contribution to preventing and detecting cervical cancer early in Indonesia and positively impact the wider community," Nabiel, one of the founders of HerLens, stated.
