Jakarta (ANTARA) - Drinking water has been made available in essential buildings within the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) of Nusantara Capital City (IKN), according to Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono.

He remarked that drinking water is currently available at the State Palace, Garuda Palace, Building of the Presidential Secretariat, the buildings of coordinating ministries, and the five-star Nusantara Hotel.

"In principle, (drinking) water has begun flowing to the IKN," Hadimuljono remarked in Jakarta on Friday.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Task Force for IKN Infrastructure Development Danis Sumadilaga stated that the government is currently in the process of supplying drinking water to more buildings, including ministerial tread houses and also flats dedicated to civil servants.

Earlier, on Thursday (August 1), Minister Hadimuljono, concurrently serving as acting head of the IKN Authority (OIKN), highlighted that the drinking water available in Nusantara is of a higher quality than bottled water.

He also spoke of having sampled drinking water flowing from the Sepaku Drinking Water Treatment Plant (IPA) on July 20, 2024.

The minister stated that the government had tested the flow of drinking water at IKN by channeling it from the Sepaku intake to the city's main reservoir located 16 kilometers away and then to four offices of coordinating ministries, situated 22 kilometers away.

Hadimuljono has also called on state-run inspection company Sucofindo to retest the drinking water at the offices to ensure that its quality is unchanged after being channeled from the IPA.

"Every office must have its drinking water tested. The test may be carried out on August 10–11. I will ask Sucofindo to test it," he remarked at a press conference in Jakarta.
