Mamuju, W Sulawesi, (ANTARA) - The West Sulawesi provincial government has announced that Wings Air, a member of Lion Air Group, will inaugurate its Mamuju-Balikpapan flight route on August 16, 2024.

The outbound and inbound service aims to enhance air connectivity to Indonesia's new capital city, Nusantara, in East Kalimantan, according to West Sulawesi Transportation Office Head Maddareski Salatin.

The flight route, approved by the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation, will initially operate three times a week.

Wings Air plans to increase frequency to seven times a week if passenger demand is strong, Salatin said on Saturday.

The airline will depart Mamuju at 10:50 a.m. local time, with tickets priced at 1,315,258 rupiahs.

As West Sulawesi is part of Nusantara's buffer zone, the provincial government supports the new flight route and plans to organize more events to attract visitors to the region, Salatin added.

West Sulawesi boasts abundant natural beauty, a rich cultural heritage, and delicious cuisine.

Popular tourist destinations include Batu Raja, Manakarra, Lombang-Lombang, Mampie, and Palippis beaches.

Mamasa District, often called West Tana Toraja, is renowned for its traditional customs and handicrafts.
