Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - National airline carrier Garuda Indonesia will add flights to Balikpapan's Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Airport in East Kalimantan to support the 79th Independence Day celebration in Nusantara capital city (IKN).

"We will coordinate with the committee of the Independence Day celebration in Nusantara," the president director of Garuda Indonesia, Irfan Setiaputra, informed here on Tuesday.

He said that from August 16, 2024, his side will add seven flights from Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang, Banten, to Balikpapan Airport using the airline's wide-body aircraft fleet.

Garuda Indonesia will also add special routes to support MotoGP Mandalika in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

"Garuda will support national-scale events and there will be special routes," Setiaputra said.

He informed that his side is coordinating with the Indonesian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) to support preparations for MotoGP Mandalika and events at IKN Nusantara.
