Jakarta (ANTARA) - A replica of the Heirloom Red-and-White Flag and a copy of the Indonesian Independence Proclamation manuscript left Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta, for Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport, Balikpapan, on Saturday.

The flag and the copy of the proclamation manuscript were earlier transported from the National Monument to the Air Force Base for their final destination in Indonesia's New Capital (IKN) Nusantara, East Kalimantan.

Based on the live broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat YouTube account in Jakarta, Saturday, the flag and the copy of the proclamation manuscript were flown to Balikpapan aboard an Indonesian Air Force Boeing 737-400 aircraft. The plane took off at around 9:55 local time from Jakarta.

A pilot from the Indonesian Air Force's Squadron 17 Unit, Major Kresna Hendra Wibawa, was chosen to fly the aircraft bringing the heirloom flag and a copy of the Proclamation Manuscript from Jakarta to Balikpapan.

On the plane, Head of the Presidential Secretariat Heru Budi Hartono accompanied the 2023 Retired Paskibraka (Heritage Flag Force) Team, who would hand over the duplicate of the Heirloom Flag and a copy of the Proclamation Manuscript at IKN.

The 2023 Retired Paskibraka Team tasked with carrying the heirloom flag was Kachina Ozora from Central Kalimantan Province.

Meanwhile, Keyla Azzahra Purnama from South Sumatra Province was appointed to carry the proclamation text.

The air journey from Jakarta to Balikpapan is estimated to take around two hours.

Later, the flag will be handed over by President Joko Widodo to Paskibraka to be raised at the IKN State Palace on August 17, 2024, during the flag ceremony to commemorate Indonesia's Independence Day.

A duplicate of the heirloom flag and a copy of the Proclamation Manuscript arrived at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base Area at around 9:35 local time.

The Maung tactical vehicle produced by PT Pindad carried the heirloom flag and a copy of the Proclamation Manuscript during the procession from the National Monument to the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base.
