Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports Dito Ariotedjo has met with his counterparts from Malaysia, Hannah Yeoh, and from Singapore, Edwin Tong, at an Indonesian restaurant in Paris, France.
"We discussed viable ways to enhance the sport performances of ASEAN countries at the global level," he noted in his Instagram account @ditoariotedjo cited in Jakarta on Sunday.
At the meeting held during the Paris 2024 Olympics, the three ministers were on the same page about the need for Southeast Asian countries to work together to augment the quality of their sport talents.
Ariotedjo stated that he and his counterparts also underlined the importance of countries in the region exchanging notes and experiences regarding their respective mainstay sports.
"It is equally vital that we immediately move to organize an elite sports event for teenagers similar to the Youth Olympic Games," he added.
He further said that Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore shared the same view about the need to take their sports cooperation to the next level in a bid to make optimum preparations for the 2025 SEA Games and a variety of international sports events in the future.
Ariotedjo has been in Paris to support 29 Indonesian athletes competing in 12 sports at this year's summer Olympics.
The contingent has managed to clinch two gold medals, presented by men's speed climber Veddriq Leonardo and men's 73kg weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah, and one bronze from women's singles badminton athlete Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
According to the schedule, Indonesia will conclude its Olympics campaign with the performance of Nurul Akmal at women's +81kg weightlifting event at the South Paris Arena 6 on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Paris time.
