Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia is committed to implementing the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).

"We received 60 recommendations in the constructive dialogue with the CEDAW Committee in 2021," the Law and Human Rights Ministry's Director General of Human Rights, Dhahana Putra, stated at the 40th Anniversary of the CEDAW workshop on Monday (August 12).

According to the ministry's official statement quoted here on Tuesday, the recommendations include gender equality and handling of gender-based violence.

As a concrete action to implement these recommendations, the ministry has strengthened coordination with other ministries or agencies and issued several policies, one of which is the inclusion of women in the 2020-2024 National Action Plan for Human Rights (RANHAM) as a target group.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to implementing CEDAW through the ratification of the Law on the Crimes of Sexual Violence (TPKS) in May 2022.

In addition, the government is drafting seven derivative regulations from the TPKS Law that include providing victims with financial assistance and other efforts to prevent sexual violence cases.

Putra admitted that some policies are discriminatory against women.

Meanwhile, his side had discussed this issue with the Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) Ministry and the National Commission on Violence against Women (Komnas Perempuan).

Moreover, the ministry has Ministerial Regulation Number 16 of 2024 concerning Guidelines for Mainstreaming Human Rights in the formation of laws and regulations.

Putra expected that the regulation could reduce the number of legal products not having a human rights perspective.

The 40th anniversary of the CEDAW workshop themed "Strengthening the Synergy of Women's Rights Protection in Indonesia" on Monday was held by the PPPA Ministry and the UN Women.
