The Tourism Office of East Kalimantan Province is planning to present a grand performance of the Natana Borneo Dance to enliven the national celebration of Indonesia's 79th Independence Day in Nusantara Capital City (IKN).
"The performance will be broadcast live by all Indonesian television channels on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at 7 a.m. Central Indonesian Standard Time," Ririn Sari, head of the office, stated in Samarinda on Thursday.
Sari remarked that around 120 dancers from different local groups -- Kutai Kartanegara's Gubang Foundation, Samarinda's Telabang Art Studio, Balikpapan's Mawar Dance Company, and North Penajam Paser's Borneo Banua Taka Art Studio -- will deliver the massive dance performance.
"We are very proud of having the opportunity to showcase the finest performance of East Kalimantan talents. This will not be a mere performance but will also be part of the history of the development of Nusantara Capital City," she emphasized.
According to the official, the dancers underwent the first plenary training at a local military base in Kutai Kartanegara District. Currently, they are conducting rounds of intensive rehearsals in the field in front of Nusantara State Palace.
Sari then underlined the importance of the dancers not only igniting their spirit but also maintaining their health to ensure the best performance on D-Day.
She also expressed hope that the performance would serve as a momentum for East Kalimantan to introduce its culture to a broader population.
"We would like to ask all people to support and observe the performance. Let us continue to provide support for artists in East Kalimantan," she stated.
Meanwhile, Hariyansa, the choreographer of the art performance, highlighted that the dance is a symbol of the sound level of synergy and collaboration among East Kalimantan's young talents.
"This dance reflects the zest of East Kalimantan's young talents to celebrate the 79th Anniversary of Indonesia's Independence Day in Nusantara," the artist stated.
