Karanganyar, C Java (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo on Thursday inaugurated 35 athletes who will participate in the 2024 Paris Paralympics, in Karanganyar, Central Java, on Thursday.

"We have carried out a long-term national training program as preparation for the Paris 2024 Paralympics," he said.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports is targeting to secure one gold medal, two silver medals, and three bronze medals at the Paralympics.

The bonus for Paralympics medalists will be the same as that for the 2024 Paris Olympics medalists.

For example, gold medal winners will get a bonus of Rp6 billion (around USD380,812).

Ariotedjo informed that the coach of the gold medalist will get a bonus of Rp2.75 billion (around USD174,547).

Even if they do not win a medal, athletes participating in the multi-sport event will receive Rp250 million (around USD15,872).

"We have an increase of 12 athletes (participating in the event). These 12 athletes, if we equate with Olympics, are not a normal increase, but an exceptional one," he said.

On the same occasion, deputy secretary general of NPC Indonesia, Rima Ferdianto, stated that out of the 35 athletes from 10 sports branches, eight have left for Paris.

He informed that the remaining 27 athletes will leave on August 20, 2024.

Earlier, at the Paris Olympics, Indonesia bagged two gold medals and one bronze medal.

Sport climbing athlete Veddriq Leonardo secured gold in the men's speed event and Rizki Juniansyah won the second gold medal for the nation in the men's 73kg weightlifting event.

Meanwhile, badminton athlete Gregoria Mariska Tunjung took the bronze medal in the women's singles.

Leonardo and Juniansyah received a bonus of Rp6 billion, and Tunjung received Rp1.65 billion (around USD104,761) from the government.
