Jakarta (ANTARA) - The growth of Indonesia's halal industry landscape has been backed mainly by three sectors, namely halal pharmacy and cosmetics, halal culinary, and modest fashion, according to the Ministry of Industry.

"Globally speaking, Indonesia's halal pharmaceutical and cosmetics sector climbed three ranks to fifth, while the country's halal culinary and modest fashion sectors have reached the second and third ranks, respectively," the ministry's Secretary-General, Eko Cahyanto, remarked.

Speaking at the Indonesia Halal Industry Awards 2024 in Jakarta on Monday, he noted that optimization of the three sectors could be a solution for Indonesia to achieve continued economic growth while keeping up with industrialization.

Cahyanto emphasized that it is vital for Indonesia to continue to develop its halal industry, considering that the total spending of global Muslim consumers has increased by 9.5 percent, from USD2 trillion in 2021 to USD2.29 trillion in 2022.

He also spotlighted that the world's Muslim population is forecast to continue growing, reaching 2.2 billion in 2030, or 26.5 percent of the global population in total.

"This prediction will surely go side by side with an increase in the demands for halal products," he added.

The official further remarked that with its enormous Muslim population of 235.6 million, Indonesia clearly wields huge potential to boost its Islamic economy and industry.

He affirmed that in a bid to promote the national halal industry, the Ministry of Industry had organized and participated in a variety of halal product exhibitions, both at home and abroad, such as the Almaty Halal Expo in Kazakhstan, OIC Halal Expo in Turkey, and Russia Halal Expo in Kazan.

Moreover, the ministry has been facilitating small industry payers to obtain halal certificates. In the last three years, the ministry's Halal Industry Empowerment Center has assisted 3,095 small industries in earning such certificates.
