"Indonesia and Turkey wield rapid-growing manufacturing industries that offer plenty of opportunities for cooperation," Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said in Jakarta on Friday.
He explained his meeting with Turkish Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacir and a number of business players during his visit to Istanbul and Ankara on June 4–5.
The meeting made it clear that Indonesia and Turkey still have cooperation opportunities that can be tapped into, especially in electric vehicles (EVs), halal products, and the defense industry, he said.
Regarding the EV industry, he noted that the Indonesian government has invited Turkish EV producers to partner and invest in Indonesia, where they can enjoy various incentives.
Currently, the incentives offered by Indonesia include exemptions on import duties and a luxury goods sales tax for imports of a certain volume of EVs.
On potential cooperation in halal products, the minister said that Indonesia is ready to support Turkey in its journey to become a global production hub of halal products.
"The capability of the Turkish food and beverage industry is quite good," he said.
According to Kartasasmita, Turkey has the potential to emerge as a production hub for halal products that will be distributed across the globe.
"Indonesia will support Turkey to invest more in the halal industry," he remarked.
He also asked Turkey for its support in the process of Indonesia's accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
He said that Turkey's potent influence in the OECD could help Indonesia complete its accession within three years.
