Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto has instructed state intelligence officials to optimize work within their jurisdiction to ensure safe and secure 2024 Local Elections.

"Intelligence officers must work 24 hours to anticipate and prevent potential disruptions," the minister said in his opening remarks before the launch of the "2024 Regional Elections Hazard Mapping" here on Monday.

He urged intelligence officers to monitor all regions and adjust their work according to the election hazard mapping issued by the General Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu).

Tjahjanto said that the intelligence agency's local security monitoring is essential to back up security measures carried out by military and police officers before and during the election.

The hazard mapping must serve as a reference for intelligence officers working in their areas, he said, adding that an appropriate understanding of the Bawaslu reference and local conditions would help them anticipate security issues.

"When security officers have a good grip on all regions, all (security) predictions and mapping by the Bawaslu, as well as projections made by the police, can be properly anticipated," Tjahjanto explained.

Indonesians will elect their governors, mayors, and district heads during the simultaneous nationwide regional elections on November 27, 2024. The elections will be held across 37 provinces, 415 districts, and 93 cities.
