The ministry's Director General of Industrial Relations Development and Workers' Social Security Indah Anggoro Putri stated here on Wednesday that the regulation is prepared in the form of the manpower minister's regulation.
Nevertheless, there is potential for a government regulation or other forms of regulations to be created in accordance with the directions from the next government.
"We have prepared the draft and carried out public consultations. We will wait for directions from the new government," she remarked.
According to Putri, the ministerial regulation focuses on several aspects, such as the need for decent work conditions for digital platform workers in accordance with the principles of the International Labour Organization (ILO).
She explained that decent work means the absence of modern slavery.
Apart from that, she affirmed that workers must have work and rest times, be paid in accordance with the applicable standards, as well as be protected from workplace risks and sexual harassment.
Furthermore, she noted that workers must also be entitled to social security and health insurance.
She remarked that the regulation is prepared on account of the increasing number of platform workers in the country as well as the remote work trend for online platform workers.
Putri underlined that regulations related to online platform workers, including ride-hailing drivers, did not solely come under the authority of the Ministry of Manpower.
This is because other ministries and institutions, such as the Ministry of Communication and Informatics and the Ministry of Transportation, need to synergize in implementing their regulations.
