The meeting took place in Nusa Dua, Badung, Bali, on Monday, on the sidelines of the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnership (HLF-MSP) and the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF).
President Jokowi conveyed his appreciation for the presence of President Boakai and underscored that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Liberia had been running well for almost six decades.
"I am sure there is still a lot of potential that we can develop together," President Jokowi said, according to a statement from the Presidential Secretariat.
The president underscored three main sectors of cooperation that can be strengthened between Indonesia and Liberia.
The first sector is cooperation in the field of palm oil, which is currently facing various challenges, such as the smear campaign in the Western world and the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), which is considered discriminatory.
President Jokowi expects Liberia to support Indonesia in fighting the smear campaign and affirmed Indonesia's readiness to support increasing the palm oil capacity in African countries, including Liberia.
The second sector is infrastructure. He noted that Indonesia has several companies with vast experience in infrastructure development that are ready to cooperate with Liberia.
The third area of focus that Jokowi also highlighted was Indonesia's readiness to bolster development cooperation with Liberia through programs aligned with Liberia's needs, such as technical support, scholarships, and vocational training.
Monday's bilateral meeting is expected to intensify relations between Indonesia and Liberia and open new mutually beneficial cooperation opportunities, especially in strategic fields.
The two leaders also emphasized their commitment to continuing to cooperate for mutual progress in the future.
