Badung, Bali (ANTARA) - Indonesia strengthened bilateral cooperation with the Solomon Islands and the Democratic Republic of the Congo at the High-Level Forum on Multi-Stakeholder Partnerships (HLF-MSP).

"We have been supporting and partnering with countries in the Pacific region for almost 10 years, and we will continue to do so," National Development Planning (Bappenas) Minister Suharso Monoarfa stated here on Tuesday.

The minister made this statement after a bilateral meeting with the Solomon Islands and Congo.

Monoarfa highlighted that Indonesia has provided support for development programs in sports, health, and education in the Solomon Islands since 2018.

The support encompasses the construction of a multifunctional stadium, the COVID-19 pandemic handling, and capacity-building in the fisheries sector, among others.

"It is a good thing that Indonesia can help other countries, as Indonesia is also assisted by developed countries. With our experience, we can help better," he remarked.

Monoarfa also emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing the problem of rising sea levels, which significantly impacts countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including the Solomon Islands.

The minister noted that Indonesia is seeking to intensify cooperation in the blue economy and tourism, including in the field of sustainable eco-tourism.

On the other hand, Indonesia strengthens bilateral cooperation with Congo through active participation in the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (GPEDC), in which Indonesia and Congo act as co-chairs.

The Bappenas also underlined the importance of population planning and management in Indonesia's development strategy.

The bilateral meeting also discussed green planning, as Indonesia is working to achieve the target of cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 51 percent by 2045.

Indonesia and Congo have the potential to cooperate in developing new and renewable energy and electric mobility by utilizing the abundant natural resources in both countries.

"They want to learn how Indonesia is planning things, and they will send experts here. We also learn from them who have abundant natural resources," Monoarfa stated.
