PGN is actively seeking partners to collaborate on low-carbon initiatives.
Jakarta (ANTARA) - State-owned PT PGN Tbk, Indonesia's largest natural gas transportation and distribution company, has affirmed its commitment to pioneering new business ventures focused on low-carbon or carbon-neutral initiatives.

According to Rosa Permata Sari, PGN's director of strategy and business development, the company is actively pursuing a step-out strategy to develop new businesses.

"To achieve this, PGN is actively seeking partners to collaborate on low-carbon initiatives," she said in a statement issued on Thursday.

In this context, PGN has expressed full support for the 2024 Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) as a platform to foster economic growth through international cooperation in various sectors.

As a gas sub-holding company and a part of PT Pertamina, PGN is prepared to assist the oil and gas holding expand its global presence in the energy sector.

Pertamina's president director Nicke Widyawati highlighted the potential for energy development, particularly in natural gas and geothermal energy.

She said that this aligns with future energy transition efforts aimed at achieving greener and cleaner energy sources.

PGN, which operates in the midstream and downstream natural gas sectors, stated it has the opportunity to develop infrastructure and leverage natural gas, in keeping with its net-zero emission (NZE) road map.

While tapping into the opportunity, PGN is adhering to the vision and mission outlined in the PGN and Pertamina NZE Road Map 2022–2060.

Sari informed that PGN's decarbonization road map for NZE 2060 involves the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies in its operations.

The company is also focusing on developing biomethane, a renewable gas produced from palm oil waste (POME).

The biomethane project offers several benefits, including reducing methane gas emissions, decreasing carbon emissions, and meeting customer demand for natural gas.

Furthermore, as the Pertamina Group expands its CO2 transportation business, PGN will play a crucial role in developing midstream infrastructure, she informed.

She said that the strategic discussions at IAF 2024 align with PGN's natural gas business development strategy, and would thereby enable more targeted investment planning, innovation, and technology adaptation.

She stressed that PGN is committed to optimizing natural gas usage during this transition period.

With the longest gas pipeline infrastructure in Southeast Asia, PGN is ensuring effective and efficient supply of natural gas across Indonesia, and thereby helping accelerate the development and utilization of green energy, she added.
