Beijing, China (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Navy's sail training ship, KRI Bima Suci, made a significant port call to Shanghai's Wusong Naval Base, underscoring the growing maritime cooperation between Indonesia and China.

The ship's arrival marked the second time it has visited the Chinese port-megacity, further cementing the friendly relations between the two countries' navies.

Rear Admiral Bao Daohua, the commander of the Shanghai Naval Base, on Saturday evening welcomed the KRI Bima Suci and emphasized the importance of the visit in strengthening bilateral naval ties.

He praised the ship's contribution to fostering understanding and cooperation between the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy and the Indonesian Navy (TNI-AL).

Lt Col Hastaria Dwi Prakoso, the commanding officer of the KRI Bima Suci, expressed similar sentiments, noting that the ship's previous visit to Shanghai had laid a strong foundation for future collaborations.

He highlighted the opportunity for Indonesian and Chinese naval personnel to exchange knowledge and experiences during the ship's stay.

The KRI Bima Suci's goodwill mission to Shanghai is part of a larger voyage that includes stops in several East Asian countries, including Russia, Vietnam, and Japan.

A departure ceremony for the ship was held at the Madura Pier of the Indonesian Navy's (TNI-AL) Second Fleet Command (Koarmada II) in Surabaya on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

The ship is scheduled to return to Indonesian waters and dock at the Koarmada II pier in Surabaya on October 30, 2024.
