Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) handed over cash bonuses as well as extended appreciation to Indonesian athletes of the Paris 2024 Paralympics at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday.

"Congratulations to athletes of the Paris 2024 Paralympics who have succeeded in achieving remarkable accomplishments and bringing extraordinary pride to our nation," Jokowi noted in his remarks.

The president expressed joy and pride over the achievements of the Indonesian contingent in the Paralympics.

He noted that Indonesia has created new history in the multi-sport event by bagging 14 medals, comprising one gold medal, eight silver medals, and five bronze medals.

As a mark of appreciation, President Jokowi handed over a bonus of Rp6 billion (around USD389,459) to the gold medal winners, Rp2.75 billion (around USD178,556) to each silver medalist, and Rp1.65 billion (around USD107,133) to each bronze medalist.

Apart from that, participating athletes who did not win a medal are also given a bonus of Rp250 million (around USD16,231). Coaches and assistant coaches also receive rewards for their dedication and hard work in coaching the champions.

"This is not an instant success but a result of a long process," he stated.

The president expressed hope that the achievements would raise the spirit and optimism of the athletes and motivate them to continue training diligently.

The Indonesian contingent is ranked 50th in the final medal tally of the 2024 Paralympics.

The gold medal was won in badminton mixed doubles by Hikmat Ramdani and Leani Ratri Oktila.

Meanwhile, the silver medals were won by:
  • Muhammad Bintang Herlangga in boccia men's singles
  • Muhammad Syafa, Felix Ardi Yudha, and Gischa Zayana in boccia mixed team
  • Saptoyogo Purnomo in men's 100m T37
  • Karisma Evi Tiarani in women's 100m T63
  • Suryo Nugroho in badminton men's singles SU5
  • Qonitah Ikhtiar Syakuroh in badminton women's singles SL3
  • Leani Ratri Oktila in badminton women's singles SL4
  • Khalimatus Sadiyah and Fredy Setiawan in badminton mixed doubles
Furthermore, the bronze medals were won by:

  • Muhamad Syafa in boccia men's singles
  • Gischa Zayana in boccia women's singles
  • Fredy Setiawan in badminton men's singles SL4
  • Dheva Anrimusthi in badminton men's singles SU5
  • Subhan and Rina Marlina in badminton mixed doubles SH6
