Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - Vice Chef de Mission (Vice CdM) of the Indonesian Paralympic Contingent, Sudaryono, lauded the medal achievements by athletes and the entire Indonesian contingent at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Indonesian athletes set a record for the most medals won during their participation, namely 14 medals comprising one gold, eight silver, and five bronze.

With the medal achievements, the Indonesian contingent finished at the 50th position of the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

"The Indonesian contingent has exceeded the medal target set at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. We must appreciate this. They are national heroes," he noted on Tuesday.

Earlier, the Indonesian contingent competing in the Paris Paralympics was targeted to secure one gold medal, two silver, and three bronze medals, as conveyed by the Indonesian contingent Chef de Mission Reda Manthovani to Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo.

"Therefore, our achievements exceeded the target set by the Indonesian contingent at the 2024 Paris Paralympics. We are proud of the achievements," Sudaryono remarked.

Furthermore, Sudaryono felt flattered to be trusted and involved in the Indonesian contingent for the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

"Sports have an important role in bringing the nation to the global level, including in this Paralympic. I feel honored, and we must continue our support for Paralympic athletes in the future," he remarked.

The Paris Paralympics ended on Sunday (September 8) with a closing ceremony enlivened by performances by several musicians. More than 4,400 athletes from 168 Paralympic delegations participated in the event. The next Paralympics will be held in Los Angeles, the United States, in 2028.

China led the 2024 Paris Paralympics medal standings, with a total of 94 gold, 76 silver, and 50 bronze medals, followed by Great Britain and the United States, which collected a total of 124 medals and 105 medals, respectively.
