Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that no Indonesian citizens were among the victims of Typhoon Yagi, which tore through Vietnam from September 7 to 12, 2024.

According to the ministry's director of protection of Indonesian citizens and legal entities, Judha Nugraha, the Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Hanoi has been coordinating with local authorities and the Indonesian citizen community in the aftermath of the typhoon.

"So far, there is no information regarding Indonesian citizens among the victims of Typhoon Yagi," he said in a statement received in Jakarta on Thursday.

Based on the embassy's data, 915 Indonesian nationals are currently residing in Vietnam.

The majority of them live in southern Vietnam, he added.

If faced with an emergency, Indonesian nationals in Vietnam have been advised to contact the hotline of the Indonesian Embassy in Hanoi (+84-70-523-1990) and the Indonesian Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City (+84-93-873-00-30).

Yagi was the strongest typhoon to hit Vietnam in 30 years. The extreme storm devastated several areas and left 1.5 million people without access to electricity.

The storm, which brought winds with speeds of nearly 150 kilometers per hour, collapsed bridges, destroyed roofs, damaged factories, and triggered floods and landslides in several areas.

As of Thursday, as many as 199 people were reported dead and 128 others missing in the typhoon. In addition, 800 others were reported as injured.
