Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Communication and Informatics Ministry has launched the Cybersecurity Capability Enhancement Program to strengthen the national cybersecurity ecosystem and talents that will target one million Indonesians.

Minister Budi Arie Setiadi said that the program will utilize the ministry's Digital Talent Scholarship (DTS) platform and focus on imparting basic cybersecurity knowledge and practical skills to individual participants, business actors, and small enterprises.

"The program is our endeavor to create one million digital talents for the next five years, which means 200 thousand digital talents each year," he disclosed during the program's launch here on Thursday.

The minister noted that though the workforce in the cybersecurity sector grew by 12.6 percent in the 2022–2023 period globally, the world still needs at least four million professionals in the sector. The Asia-Pacific region alone currently needs 2.5 million talents, he pointed out.

Indonesia is expected to need an average of 458,043 digital talents every year from 2023 to 2030, he added.

"Investment in human resources is important since the demand for skilled talents in cybersecurity will grow substantially," the minister stressed.

Setiadi noted that some courses offered in the program cover device inventory, software and online security upgrades, phishing and malware risk mitigation, and data backup for businesses. Participants will receive a certificate upon completing the courses.

The initiative is also expected to help new talents and professionals hone their skills and nurture them to become cybersecurity specialists, the minister added.

"The training participants are expected not to stop upon completing basic courses but to continue to more advanced or specific courses," Setiadi said.
