Bandung (ANTARA) - State-owned railway operator PT KAI has confirmed the derailment of the Walahar Commuter Line Train (KA 317) in Purwakarta District, West Java, on Sunday, with no reports of casualties.

"The trip of the Walahar train was disrupted by the derailment of its power car at the rear of the train in the Purwakarta-Cibungur area at 11:28 a.m. local time," Public Relations Manager of KAI Operational Area 2 (Daop 2) Ayep Hanapi said.

When contacted by ANTARA in Bandung, West Java, the manager noted that the incident caused no major disruptions, but got several train trips delayed.

He pointed out that the derailment had resulted in a 33-minute delay to KA 251 to Purwokerto, a 23-minute delay KA 143A-146 to Bandung, a six-minute delay to KA 50A to Jakarta, and a 10-minute delay to KA 40A to Jakarta.

"Meanwhile, the trip of the KA 317 (Walahar train) to Jakarta itself was delayed by 80 minutes. The area is still passable by trains since one track is still operational," he added.

According to Hanapi, his side had immediately made a move by dispatching a team to evacuate the power car using a support train. The evacuation concluded at 3:37 p.m. local time.

"Our technical team has moved swiftly to address this matter and conduct an evacuation to restore the track and ensure the safety of incoming trains" he stated.

The manager further said that a repair process had been initiated in the hopes of returning the track into its normal state as soon as possible.
