Jakarta (ANTARA) - Women's participation in the workforce is crucial for leveraging the demographic dividend, according to the Secretary General of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Suharti.

"The rate of women's participation in the workforce is only around 52 to 53 percent, while for men, it is already above 82 percent," she emphasized during the "10 Years of Synergy in Building National Human Resources" webinar on Tuesday.

She noted that her ministry has been making efforts to enhance the capacity and knowledge of women by providing broader access to education.

These efforts include the launch of various programs, such as the Independent Curriculum and the Vocational High School Center of Excellence, as well as scholarships.

However, she stressed that these efforts are not sufficient, as collaboration between relevant ministries and institutions is necessary to ensure that women with the required skills and knowledge are able to secure employment.

Suharti emphasized that it is important to ensure that such women gain access to the workforce through various forms of support. This could lead to an increase in women's labor force participation.

To this end, she called for increased synergy and collaboration between relevant ministries and agencies to ensure that the working-age population, including women, is equipped with the skills and knowledge needed in the workforce.
