Surabaya (ANTARA) - State-owned shipbuilder PAL Indonesia has completed the construction of its second 60-megawatt barge-mounted power plant (BMPP) to serve eastern Indonesia's electricity needs.

"The BMPP, commissioned by Indonesia Power, will be a crucial solution for meeting eastern Indonesia's growing energy demand," PAL Indonesia CEO Kaharuddin Djenod stated during a press conference in Surabaya, East Java, on Wednesday.

He emphasized that BMPPs are a key part of the company's general engineering product line specializing in electrification.

This innovative technology offers a flexible and efficient power generation solution, especially for areas with limited or no access to traditional electricity grids.

He explained that the second 60 MW BMPP represents a significant technological advancement by PAL Indonesia.

Building upon the success of its predecessor, this product is designed to be more efficient, environmentally friendly, and beneficial to the community.

Before being handed over to Indonesia Power, the 60 MW BMPP Nusantara-2 underwent rigorous tests and commissioning procedures, including pre-commissioning mechanical and electrical systems.

A successful first engine smoke test marked BMPP's initial operational readiness stage.

Kaharuddin highlighted PAL Indonesia's commitment to ensuring high operational safety standards, optimal efficiency, and environmental sustainability.

The Indonesian Classification Bureau (BKI) and Bureau Veritas (BV) from France oversaw the construction of BMPP.

This project demonstrates Indonesia's capability to design and build complex, sophisticated energy infrastructure that meets international standards, Kaharuddin said, adding that PAL Indonesia aims to continue contributing to the development of clean and renewable energy technologies in the future.
