Banda Aceh, Aceh (ANTARA) - Youth and Sports Minister Dito Ariotedjo called to delay matches in the 21st Aceh-North Sumatra National Sports Week (PON) if the extreme weather continues.

"If the extreme weather persists, it is better to postpone some matches," Minister Ariotedjo told reporters here on Wednesday.

On Tuesday (September 17), extreme weather conditions in the form of rain storm and strong winds hit some parts of Aceh, including Banda Aceh, Aceh Besar, and Pidie.

The extreme weather caused inundation in the Rindam Mata Ie Shooting Range in Aceh Besar District, forcing the PON shooting tournament to be postponed.

Other PON sports tournaments, such as archery, rock climbing, and tennis planned in Banda Aceh, also had to be delayed.

The roller skating competition, which was due to be held in Pantai Pelangi, Pidie, had to be moved to the indoor court of the Aceh Mapolda Field.

Extreme weather continued on Wednesday, as strong winds and drizzling impacted Banda Aceh and Aceh Besar since the morning at 10:45 a.m. local time. Some venues at the Harapan Bangsa Stadium Complex were also damaged due to this condition.

At the archery venue, some tents where athletes prepared themselves were swept away by the windy weather.

Strong winds also caused a window of the Harapan Bangsa Sports Complex building to come crashing down during the 3x3 basketball game, injuring two spectators.
