The test will use an aircraft with the same size as the presidential aircraft.Tangerang (ANTARA) - Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi informed that his ministry will conduct another test on Friday (September 20, 2024) to check the feasibility of landing a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, similar to the presidential aircraft, at IKN Airport.
"We will conduct a formal trial on Friday. So far, the ministry has conducted trials using several aircraft on the IKN airport's runway," he said on Thursday.
"The test will use an aircraft with the same size as the presidential aircraft," he added.
If the feasibility test is successful and the plane manages to land, the airport will be officially opened and used soon, he disclosed.
"We are being very careful in building the airport. It is located in a strategic place near the IKN area," the minister added.
Earlier, the Directorate General of Air Transportation carried out the calibration process at IKN Airport before its official operation.
On September 10, Sumadi said that the calibration mission flight was a follow-up to the IKN Airport verification carried out on September 8 and 9.
Besides calibration, a flight procedure validation flight was also carried out using performance-based navigation. The ministry will conduct several other assessments before issuing recommendations to the airport's management.
The construction of the IKN Airport has made significant progress. A runway measuring 2,200 x 30 meters has been built. Meanwhile, the construction of the VVIP terminal is more than 90 percent complete, while the VIP terminal is almost 80 percent ready.
The construction of supporting facilities, such as an ATC tower, the administration and operational buildings, and the PKP-PK Building, is also on.
Moreover, the main access road to the airport is almost complete.
Based on the overall progress, the minister is optimistic the airport will be completed by December 31, 2024.
