In a statement from the ministry on Thursday (September 19), the ministry's Abiyoso Cimahi Center and the Directorate of Social Protection for Natural Disaster Victims (PSKBA) responded quickly to the emergency response and distributed aid to earthquake survivors.
"Aid has been distributed since Wednesday (September 18) afternoon," head of the Administration Department of the Abiyoso Center, Ema Salwa, remarked.
The aid provided was in the form of four multipurpose tents, 71 portable family tents, 40 tarpaulins, 230 mattresses, 80 packages of ready-to-eat food, 100 packages of children's food, 370 blankets, 290 family kits, 290 packages of kids wear, and two solar cell installations for lighting.
According to Salwa, the ministry also distributed additional logistical assistance through the West Java Provincial Social Service Office comprising two multipurpose tents, 150 roll-up tents, 20 family tents, and 125 mattresses.
The other assistance provided were 250 blankets, 700 packages of ready-to-eat food, 400 packages of children's food, 75 packages of family kits, 75 packages of kidswear, and two portable toilets, worth Rp1.5 billion (US$95 thousand).
Apart from assisting in meeting the basic needs, the ministry, along with the Disaster Preparedness Cadet (Tagana) team and social assistants, also built refugee tents and a public kitchen.
The public kitchen was set up in the yard of the Kertasari Sub-District Office and served the needs of six thousand meal packages for two meals per day, Salwa noted.
The ministry then coordinated with the Bandung District Social Service and the Bandung District Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Service to provide clean water.
Furthermore, the Bandung District PUPR service fulfilled the sanitary needs by providing eight portable toilets equipped with water tanks.
An earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.0 and a depth of 10 kilometers, struck on Wednesday (September 18) at around 9:41 local time in Bandung District, with 23 people injured and 1,123 people evacuating.
The earthquake also affected 3,982 houses and 132 public facilities and places of worship in the four sub-districts of Pacet, Majalaya, Kertasari, and Pangalengan.
