"BNN has discovered illegal drug trafficking from Malaysia smuggled into Indonesia via Aceh to be distributed in the North Sumatra and Palembang regions," Deputy for Eradication of BNN, Inspector General I Wayan Sugiri, noted in a press statement in Jakarta on Friday.
He remarked that the BNN also arrested three suspects -- AI, LAH, and FA -- with the aforementioned evidence.
"Thus, BNN has succeeded in saving 40,348 people in this country from the potential of drug abuse," Sugiri remarked.
He then detailed that the case came to light owing to information received from the public. On August 22, the BNN team managed to arrest a man, with the initials AI, in Sei Lapan Sub-District, North Sumatra.
He was found carrying 15 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine in 15 packages of Chinese tea and stored in a sack labeled "Pupuk SP-26."
Based on his confession, he took the narcotics packages in an alley on the side of Prof. A Majid Ibrahim Street, Langsa City, Aceh, from someone with the initials LAH.
On the same day, the BNN team then pursued and secured LAH in Langsa City, Aceh.
"From the search conducted at LAH's house, our team found two packages of Chinese tea containing 10,345 ecstasy pills, with a net weight of 3,021.8 grams," Sugiri remarked.
From the investigation, LAH confessed that the ecstasy found in his house was ordered by someone with the initials FA.
On August 24, the BNN team managed to arrest FA in a shophouse located in Langsa, Aceh.
"FA admitted that the ecstasy found in LAH's house was his, which he left to be stored in LAH's house," Sugiri remarked.
The suspects were charged with Article 114 (2) Jo Article 112 (2) Jo Article 132 (1) of Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics, with a maximum punishment of death penalty or life imprisonment.
