Pandeglang (ANTARA) - The Tanjung Lesung Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Pandeglang District, Banten, is planning to hold a tourism sports event titled "Rhino Eco Run" on September 29 to commemorate World Rhino Day.

In a statement received in Serang on Saturday, Tanjung Lesung SEZ President Director Poernomo Siswoprasetjo noted that the activity aims to draw participants from the provinces of Jakarta, Banten, and West Java.

"We will organize 5- and 10-kilometer runs to celebrate World Rhino Day that will fall on September 22 while educating people about the importance of preserving the endangered Javan rhinoceros," he remarked.

Siswoprasetjo revealed that to hold the commemorative activity, his side would collaborate with several parties, including the Pandeglang Tourism Office, Ujung Kulon National Park, Indonesian Rhinoceros Foundation (YABI), National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), and Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin State Islamic University.

He stated that banners and posters would be installed along the designated running route to provide participants with information on the conservation of rhinos.

"The running route itself starts from the main road of the Tanjung Lesung SEZ and leads to the Lalassa Beach area. Three kilometers from the beach, the runners will reach the finish line at Bodur Beach," he pointed out.

The president director stated that the event would start at 7:30 a.m. local time for those registering for the 10-kilometer run, while the shorter run would start 10 minutes later.

In collaboration with the Ujung Kulon National Park and YABI, the Tanjung Lesung SEZ will also hold a handover ceremony for rhino feed from communities to the local government.

"Our collaboration with relevant parties aims to diversify the types of feed for one-horned rhinoceros, or Javan rhinos, in tandem with restoring their habitat in an effort to conserve their population," he stated.

He then expressed hope that people would join the fun run activity to partake in the efforts to promote Banten's tourism destinations, especially the Tanjung Lesung SEZ.
