"Three TNI AU aircraft conducted a test of the Nusantara Airport runway, with a landing and takeoff trial," Air Force Chief of Staff, Marshal M. Tonny Harjono, said in a press statement from his office on Sunday.
According to him, the trial went smoothly and successfully.
The Nusantara Airport has a runway dimension of 2,200x30 meters, a runway shoulder dimension of 7.5 meters, and a taxiway of 153x23 meters, he informed.
Furthermore, the airport runway is built with asphalt quality according to the standard for the aircraft to brake before reaching 2,200 meters to stop with a normal configuration.
"Before the trial, we had conducted a survey, coordination, and discussions to gain necessary information regarding the airport readiness," Harjono remarked.
The three types of aircraft belonging to the Indonesian Air Force used for the Nusantara Airport runway trial were Casa 212/A-2104, CN 295/A-2905, and Hercules C130/A-1338.
The first trial was carried out using the Casa 212/A-2104 aircraft manned by Major Susilo Adisaputro, Pilot Captain Faizal Fibriyan, Co-Pilot First Lieutenant Luthfian Dwi Parendahsyah, and Second Lieutenant M. Tsalis Fahmi as the crew, with takeoff and landing trials.
Followed by the CN 295/A-2905 aircraft trial on the next day with Lieutenant Colonel Fitrianto Ali Ngimron as instructor pilot, Captain Ryan Parafoila as pilot, and Lieutenant Kukuh Dedy Riyantoko acting as co-pilot.
The last test was carried out using a Hercules C130/A-1338 aircraft, which is one of the TNI AU's heavy transport aircraft, with Pilot Lieutenant Colonel A. Muh Averroes and Co-Pilot Captain Gustine Rossyan.
Earlier, the Transportation Ministry also carried out a calibration process for all facilities and equipment at the Nusantara Airport to ensure the operational readiness of the airport in accordance with flight safety standards.
"The calibration process aims to ensure flight safety and security as well as to ensure the operation of air transportation support equipment runs correctly and accurately," Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi noted.
