Jakarta (ANTARA) - Law and Human Rights Minister Supratman Andi Agtas launched Indonesia's series of commemorative activities themed "Harmony in Diversity Towards Golden Indonesia 2045" to celebrate the 76th World Human Rights Day.

During a launch event in Jakarta on Wednesday, the minister elaborated on the theme, saying that it does not act as a mere motto, as it reflects Indonesia's grand dream of emerging as a just, peaceful, and inclusive country on its 100th anniversary of Independence Day.

"(Indonesia is dreaming of becoming a country) where its citizens live in harmony, respect each other, and have their basic rights guaranteed by the country," he remarked.

To this end, Agtas urged all parties to align steps towards a brighter future by respecting, protecting, fulfilling, upholding, and advancing human rights in Indonesia.

"We all share the responsibility to create a better Indonesia for future generations," he remarked.

On the occasion, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights also held the reading of a declaration on regional head election for first-time voters by representatives of 26 senior high schools coordinated by the ministry's Community of Youth and Student Advocates for Human Rights.

The minister underlined that the declaration serves as a testament to the government's commitment to guaranteeing young Indonesians' basic rights in democracy, namely the right to vote and be voted.

"These rights are not a mere formality, as they stand as the essence of democracy, which provides equal opportunities to all citizens to participate," he remarked.

Furthermore, Agtas called on first-time voters in the age bracket of 17-19 years to actively participate in this year's forthcoming simultaneous regional head elections, as he believed they would play a pivotal role in shaping the country's future.

Meanwhile, the ministry's Human Rights Director General Dhahan Putra stated that in addition to the declaration, Indonesia would commemorate this year's World Human Rights Day by organizing human rights-themed quizzes, a talk show, a fun run, and several digital content competitions.

The peak event of the commemoration will take place at Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, on December 10, 2024.
