Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian National Alms Agency (Baznas) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people.

Baznas Head Noor Achmad made these remarks during the opening of the 2024 Baznas National Coordinating Meeting in Nusantara Capital City, East Kalimantan, on Wednesday.

"Baznas continues to collaborate with its regional offices, partner companies, other alms organizations, institutions, and communities to collect funds donated by Indonesians for Palestine under the 'Mending Palestine's Wounds' movement," Achmad stated in a press release on Thursday.

Achmad also noted that Baznas has set a target to collect at least Rp250 billion (US$16.5 million) in charitable funds to support Palestinians affected by Israel's genocidal invasion.

As of September 2024, the total value of funds received has significantly exceeded the target, reaching Rp306.29 billion.

"The initial plan was to collect Rp250 billion, which would be distributed in three phases. In the emergency response phase, Rp75 billion will go toward food, medicines, medical equipment, and other necessities," he explained.

During the rehabilitation phase, Baznas plans to use Rp25 billion to activate water sources, provide psychosocial services to children and people with disabilities, and care for the injured.

In the final phase, the agency will assist the oppressed Palestinian nation by using Rp150 billion to repair houses of worship, hospitals, and schools.

"All donations received by Baznas will be distributed to the Palestinian people," he emphasized.

The coordination meeting, held from September 25-27, brings together around 1,200 Baznas officials from across the country.
