Speaking at the event, which highlighted a theme of "Shaping The Future Economy: AI & Semiconductor" and was held at the Kura-Kura Special Economic Zone (SEZ), he said that AI and semiconductors are the core components of Indonesia's digital economy.
The two can become Indonesia's strategic tools to compete with other ASEAN countries such as Singapore and Malaysia, he said, adding that AI and semiconductors entered the National Digital Economy Framework in 2023.
The government, he explained, has issued and implemented policies to support the rapid development of digital technology in various industry sectors.
"This forum is really important, because this is Indonesia's step in the AI and semiconductor ecosystem," Hartarto said.
The minister added that the country's potential in AI and semiconductor is supported by the demographic bonus.
However, the demographic bonus population must be productive.To realize that, the government provides re-skilling and up-skilling training, in addition to world-class education, he said.
Hartarto also said that the Tsinghua University's contribution in the Kura-Kura SEZ must be expanded and deepened.
The knowledge sharing and networking forum was held in collaboration with the Indonesian National Council of SEZ, the Kura-Kura SEZ, Tsinghua Southeast Asia, and the Institution of Indonesian Engineers (PII).
The forum gathered various stakeholders namely the government, academicians, and industry players.
On that occasion, Minister Hartarto emphasized that technological transformation is the key to unlock Indonesia's economic growth potential.
The country also needs to accelerate the three economic engines, namely revitalizing conventional economic engines, driving new economic engines, and strengthening the Pancasila economy.
