Jakarta (ANTARA) - A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) has expressed hope that the newly-established National Nutrition Agency will help resolve nutritional issues in Indonesia.

Legislator Agung Widyantoro said the agency’s presence can prevent disputes among ministries and agencies in addressing nutritional problems.

"There is a strong intention for nutritional issues to be handled by one agency," he stated on Friday.

Widyantoro also urged the next government under Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka to rely on the agency to tackle these issues.

He emphasized that the National Nutrition Agency plays a crucial role in ensuring proper nutrition for children, students, toddlers, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers.

"We have allocated a budget targeting several key areas, one of which is the commitment to improving children's nutrition through a free nutritious meal program," he said.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo established the National Nutrition Agency to optimize national nutritional efforts. The agency operates under and is accountable to the president.

The agency will implement nutrition programs for students at the early childhood, elementary, and secondary education levels, including those in special needs schools and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Related news: DPR approves National Nutrition Agencyas working partner
