Batam, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - A member of the Indonesian Electoral Organizer Honorary Council (DKPP), Ratna Dewi Pettalolo, has urged women to tackle and prevent money politics during the 2024 Regional Head Elections (Pilkada).

She made the request while speaking at a Pilkada educational activity entitled "The Role of Women in Supervising the 2024 Regional Head Election." The activity was organized by the Batam City General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) here on Saturday.

According to Pettalolo, money politics is one of the issues that could disrupt the course of the election.

By helping supervise Pilkada stages, women are expected to protect their family members and people around them from money politics, she explained.

"Don't let money affect your integrity as a voter. I believe that women have an extraordinary influence in supervising the implementation of Pilkada," she said.

In addition to money politics, she noted that the politicization of sensitive issues also often occurs during the Pilkada stages.

She said that sensitive issues often become hot topics in the public space during Pilkada, hence, women have the role of educating their family members and people around them.

"Women have power and basics in political education. Women with their influence will make the election run better, and are prepared to become the Bawaslu's extension in overseeing Pilkada," Pettalolo added.

She expressed the hope that with the holding of the educational activity, women can become drivers of good faith actions during Pilkada.

"Don't let some sum of money hurt the running of the democratic election," she said.

Pilkada voting will take place simultaneously across regions on November 27, 2024.
