"The government expected that the MoU and technical arrangement for the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in Qatar via SPSK can be signed in 2025," Noor remarked here on Tuesday.
The deputy minister made the statement after meeting with Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar Ridwan Hassan at the Indonesian Embassy in Doha.
On that occasion, Noor explained that the MoU on the placement of migrant workers via SPSK is important, as it offers certainty of protection to Indonesian migrants, especially in the domestic sector.
He underscored the need to pay attention to several important notes in the MoU, such as SPSK, as the only mechanism for placing Indonesian workers in the domestic sector in Qatar.
Moreover, these workers must be employed by employers with legal entities and not by individuals.
Noor expects his visit to Qatar to strengthen diplomacy in the field of labor between Indonesia and Qatar, especially in terms of the placement and protection of Indonesian migrant workers.
"I am optimistic that under Ambassador Hassan, cooperation in the field of labor between the two countries can improve and develop," he stated.
According to the Qatar government's data, the expat population in that country reached 2,982,631 people in 2023, and over 23 thousand of that number are Indonesians.
The regions with the highest number of migrant workers in Qatar are Doha, Al Khor, Dukhan, and Mesaieed.
