For 48 days, the ship, under the control of Fleet Command III, will sail from Jakarta to Sorong in Southwest Papua and then to Solomon, Fiji, Vanuatu, and Papua New Guinea and finally return to its headquarters in Sorong.
"The goal of this task is to carry out defense diplomacy to strengthen our free and active politics, including in countries in the South Pacific region," Hendrata remarked at the send-off on Wednesday.
He noted that Fleet Command III is responsible for developing diplomacy between friendly and neighboring countries.
While docking in the four countries in the South Pacific region, the warship will provide health service, distribute social assistance packages, meet with naval officials in each country as part of a courtesy call, and open its doors to introduce KRI WSH-991 to the community in the South Pacific region.
Hendrata revealed that in the four nations, the team will also conduct repairs at several places of worship in the destination countries and hold cultural exchange programs.
Under the goodwill and diplomacy mission to the four countries in the South Pacific, he stated that the KRI WSH-991 will also distribute health equipment such as wheelchairs, mattresses for transporting patients, and medicines provided by the Indonesian Ministry of Health.
