Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry said that it has developed the Tiered Inclusive Education Module to respond to the challenges and obstacles faced by educators in providing equal education to children with special needs.

"The ministry has launched basic-level tiered inclusive education that can be accessed by all teachers in Indonesia in the Independent Teaching Platform," the ministry's director of high schools, Winner Jihad Akbar, said at a webinar here on Wednesday.

He explained that the module provides an understanding and examples of good practices regarding inclusive education at the basic level, which are specifically intended for non-special education teachers.

That way, those teachers can still provide inclusive and equal education to students with various needs.

He expressed the hope that the module would support the development of professions related to inclusive education, which could further strengthen safe, friendly, and enjoyable learning and educational services for students with various needs from all educational ecosystems.

Basic Education Data from December 2023 pegs the number of formal educational institutions that have special needs students at 40,164. However, only 5,956 educational institutions, or 14.83 percent, have special education teachers.

"To this end, as a strategy for tackling the issues of providing inclusive education, a joint commitment of the government, teachers, parents, and the community in creating an educational environment that is inclusive and supports all students is needed," Akbar said.
