Jakarta (ANTARA) - President-elect Prabowo Subianto has expressed his eagerness to eliminate poverty in Indonesia, including through natural resources downstreaming, to bring benefits to the community.

"I have received a mandate from the Indonesian people to eliminate poverty from our country," he said while delivering a speech at the Repnas National Conference in Jakarta on Monday.

He also expressed his determination to maintain and secure Indonesia's resources to bring benefits to its people, including by processing natural resources domestically.

Prabowo also invited members of the National Young Entrepreneur Volunteers (Repnas) to jointly build the economy in the future.

"We must manage our wealth as well as possible; our children must eat nutritious food. This requires good cooperation for a better and more prosperous life. There will be no poverty in Indonesia," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, Repnas chairperson Anggawira said that over the next five years, his party will work with the government to create jobs.

Repnas is also committed to strengthening the regional economy and helping the government increase economic growth by 8 percent, he added.

Earlier, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Muhadjir Effendy, informed that the extreme poverty rate in Indonesia has declined from four percent to 0.8 percent in the last decade.

"In the last 10 years, our extreme poverty has decreased from four percent to 0.8 percent," he highlighted in Jakarta on September 17, 2024.

However, the exact figure is pending the results of a survey conducted in September 2024, which could show a further drop in extreme poverty, he added.

"The result of the survey in September could be lower than 0.8 percent," he disclosed.

Furthermore, the president's advisor, Arif Budimanta, said that the extreme poverty elimination program is running well.

"The extreme poverty rate is in line with the government's target. It will reach zero percent in 2024," he added on September 27.
