Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has emphasized the important role of cybersecurity in achieving the target of 8 percent economic growth set by the incoming Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka administration.

Deputy chairperson for communication and informatics of Kadin Indonesia, Firlie Ganinduto, said that cybersecurity has a crucial role in maximizing Indonesia's digital economy.

"In line with the vision of President-elect Prabowo Subianto to achieve 8 percent economic growth in the next few years, Kadin Indonesia believes that cybersecurity is one of the main keys to achieving Indonesia's digital economic potential in the future," he added during the inauguration of the Indonesian Digitalization and Cybersecurity Association (ADIKSI) here on Thursday

Therefore, Kadin Indonesia has collaborated with the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) and cybersecurity industry players, both domestic and foreign, to release a study entitled Indonesia Cybersecurity Industry Report.

The report analyzes the industry landscape and identifies sector-specific challenges and opportunities in protecting critical infrastructure.

It warns that the financial and operational impacts of cyberattacks will continue to increase without continuous improvement.

Citing the report, Ganinduto said that the government and industry players need to pay attention to investing in encryption technology, human resource training, and early detection systems for cyberattacks.

In addition, collaboration between the government, academics, and the private sector is needed to strengthen national cyber resilience.

The goal of building the cyber resilience of the national industry is in line with the government's vision to achieve economic growth of up to 8 percent.

Based on BSSN data, throughout 2023, more than 403.9 million traffic anomalies indicating cyberattacks were recorded in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, from January to May 2024, there were 74 million traffic anomalies, of which more than 44 million were malware activities.

These cyberattacks were the reason for the formation of the Indonesian Digitalization and Cybersecurity Association (ADIKSI) as an initiative to strengthen the national cybersecurity industry.

Ganinduto said that the association is intended as a communication forum for cybersecurity providers. It will also seek to address the challenge of the increasing number of cyberattacks in the national industrial sector, he added.

"As representatives of the national business world, we see a high need to ensure that cybersecurity does not disrupt business processes. Therefore, today's initiative is important to strengthen national cybersecurity in order to protect the industry," he said.

According to him, digital transformation has created opportunities as well as vulnerabilities in various industries, such as financial services, critical infrastructure (energy, gas, and water), health, and manufacturing.

Protecting business assets as well as important networks from cyberthreats is increasingly becoming a top priority for Indonesia.

Kadin and ADIKSI are currently finalizing a blueprint for the development of the cybersecurity industry and ecosystem in the country.

"This document is expected to be a guideline for stakeholders in building a resilient cybersecurity ecosystem, strengthening synergies, and participating in supporting 8 percent economic growth for the next government," Ganinduto added.
