Jakarta (ANTARA) - Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed the hope for closer cooperation with Indonesia under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.

"Insya Allah (God willing), we will work more closely with the atmosphere of friendship, not only at the personal level, but also at the state level, which will bring benefits to the people of both countries," PM Anwar said in a post on the X platform, which was accessed from here on Saturday.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo said that Indonesia wishes to be a friend to all countries as well as a good neighbor by upholding the anti-colonial principle.

He conveyed the statement in his inaugural speech at the Nusantara Building in the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, on Sunday.

He emphasized that under his leadership, Indonesia's foreign policy will be to be a good neighbor. "We want to be a good neighbor," he said.

Under his leadership, Indonesia's foreign policy will also uphold the ancient belief that "A thousand friends is too few, (but) one enemy is too many."

Prabowo, 73, and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, 37, took the oath of office for the 2024–2029 term at the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) plenary session on Sunday. The pair said they are committed to dedicating their lives to the interests of the nation.

Besides Malaysia, the heads of state/ministers of other countries, such as Germany, Qatar, Thailand, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Russia, Laos, Vietnam, Vanuatu, Brunei Darussalam, Timor Leste, Serbia, and China, also attended the Prabowo-Gibran inauguration ceremony.
