Both parties concurred on the importance of collective efforts from regional parliaments to support Palestinian independence and stop Israel's colonization of the Palestinian people by inviting all other Southeast Asian Parliament members to participate.
"This forum is expected to serve as a platform to fight for Palestinian independence from the parliamentary side, especially in Southeast Asia," Chairman of BKSAP, Fadli Zon, noted in a statement on Friday.
Chairman of the DPR's PKS Fraction, Jazuli Juwaini, expressed optimism that all parliaments in the Southeast Asian region would join the forum.
"If all members of parliament in Southeast Asia have joined this forum, then the fight for Palestinian independence will be stronger. If Palestine wins its independence and colonialism stops, we must start to think about building Palestine post-independence," he remarked.
On that occasion, the Indonesian delegation was represented by Fadli Zon, Jazuli Juwaini, Deputy Chairman of BKSAP Sukamta, and member of BKSAP Syahrul Aidi Maazat.
The Malaysian delegation was led by the Chairman of the Malaysian Parliamentary Caucus for Palestine Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh.
In the agreement session to establish the Southeast Asian Parliamentary Forum for Palestinian Independence, Zon and Juwaini were entrusted to serve as forum advisors.
Zon also serves as the Deputy Chair of the World Parliamentary League for AlQuds, while Jazuli Juwaini serves as Vice President of the World Muslim Parliamentary Members Forum.
Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh from Malaysia was chosen to lead the forum, while Sukamta from Indonesia will fill the deputy chairman position. Meanwhile, members of parliament from several countries in the Southeast Asia region will handle the management.
