Speaking in the Forum of Women Parliamentarians held on the sidelines of the 148th IPU Assembly on Saturday (March 23), Maharani emphasized that AI development brings about both progress and tough challenges to humanity.
"With that in mind, I believe that AI needs to be regulated in a comprehensive manner," she said, as per statement received from the DPR here on Sunday.
Maharani placed emphasis on the need to promote the participation of women in AI development, considering that women accounted for a half of the world's total population.
"We need to ensure that women are actively involved in the development of AI," she stressed.
That way, she added, women will be able to possess a better understanding about AI and the conveniences it offers.
The house speaker also drew attention to women's position and role in wars and conflict resolution processes.
In her speech, Maharani underlined that women and children still belong to the most vulnerable groups during times of war.
She cited the Israeli aggression in Gaza as an example, noting that 67 percent of victims of the armed conflict are women and children.
"This is a painful warning that prompts the global community to invest more in agendas concerning women, peace, and security," she remarked, adding that women are integral to effective peace processes.
She then called on the forum participants to take concrete measures, including endorsing women's leadership in peace processes.
"As parliamentarians, it is our duty to ensure that women take part in peace negotiations," she said.
The international forum drew participation from 145 delegates, including 55 house speakers.
