Jakarta (ANTARA) - United Kingdom Foreign Secretary David Lammy has expressed the hope that cooperation between Indonesia and the UK, especially in green growth, will improve under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto.

"Indonesia is a key player in our fight to tackle the climate crisis, and our new governments are working together to build a strategic partnership that delivers green growth," he said in a statement received from the British Embassy here on Sunday.

Lammy attended the inauguration of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka at the Nusantara Building of the parliament complex in Jakarta on Sunday. This was his first visit to Indonesia.

He said he expects Indonesia and the UK to deepen security cooperation and ensure a sustainable future for the planet.

The two countries are marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year.

The anniversary has solidified their modern partnership to tackle the climate and nature crises while creating sustainable jobs and growth.

"It has been an honor to come to Jakarta to represent the UK at the inauguration of President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran. On behalf of the UK, I wish the new President and Vice President the best for their terms," Lammy said in the statement.

Meanwhile, British Ambassador to Indonesia Dominic Jermey said Lammy's visit reflects Indonesia's importance to the UK and marks a new chapter in their bilateral relationship.

"We look forward to working with Indonesia under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as we work together to boost economic growth, protect the environment, and create a more peaceful planet for our peoples," Jermey added.
