Joko Widodo and Ma'ruf Amin were succeeded by Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as President and Vice President of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term.
Surakarta, Central Java (ANTARA) - Former president Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and spouse Iriana have arrived at their hometown in Surakarta, Central Java, after handing over the presidency to Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta on Sunday morning.

According to Acting Mayor of Surakarta Dhoni Widiyanto, his side prepared a welcoming ceremony for Jokowi and Iriana at their residence in Sumber Village, Banjarsari Subdistrict, Surakarta.

"Once (Jokowi and Iriana) arrived at their residence in Sumber Village, we ready a simple welcoming ceremony for them," he stated here on Sunday.

The simple ceremony was organised per request from Jokowi himself, as confirmed by the Surakarta government's chief of protocol, communication, and public administration, Sulistiarini.

The Indonesian Air Force's (TNI-AU's) Boeing 737 military aircraft carrying the former leader safely landed at Adi Soemarmo Airport in Boyolali District, west of Surakarta, at approximately 4 p.m. local time.

They were welcomed by thousands of residents flanking the road passed by them. Residents enthusiastically welcomed Jokowi and Iriana who are returning home after being in Jakarta for more than a decade.

Some of the residents carried banners with expressions of gratitude to the former leader.

Meanwhile, municipal leaders and local figures welcomed Jokowi and Iriana at their residence in Sumber Village. One of the local figures is KGPAA Mangkunegara X, the young ruler of the traditional Mangkunegaran dynasty based in Surakarta.

Prabowo and Gibran were sworn in during the plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) at the Parliament Complex in Jakarta, on Sunday morning.

A total of 709 out of 731 MPR members witnessed the inauguration. The plenary session was also attended by national figures, political party leaders, and representatives of friendly countries.
